Hello! I am Kaiya Shimura (志村 魁哉), a Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya University, Japan. My research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
RESEARCH
Context-Bearing Communication
Modern remote communication faces a dilemma. Sharing "everything" can introduce privacy risks and information overload. In contrast, sharing only the user’s body (without surrounding context) can hide essential cues such as documents, tools, or physical objects that help others understand activity, attention, and intent.
My research vision, Context-Bearing Communication, aims to bridge this gap. By leveraging automatic activity-aware sharing, the system selectively transmits context-relevant objects. This allows users to behave naturally with minimal effort, fostering a deeper sense of co-presence while maintaining a high level of privacy.
